Oruro
Oruro is the city where
my father was born. The City
is close to La Paz, about 4 hours and sits about 3700m in altitude. I was really looking forward to
visiting Oruro. Since it was
the homeplace to my father, and most of my family.
My Grandfather kept telling me to
make sure I have lots of warm clothes… he said “Hace mucho Frio en Oruro.” I laughed as he told me to
stuff old newspapers under my shirt if I was cold. Once nightfall came on my
first night, I knew exactly what he ment.
Founded in 1606 Oruro is one
of Bolivia’s most historic towns and holds some of Bolivia’s most
beautiful parks and art. It is also called the Folklorica
Capital de Bolivia. During
Carnival Oruro hosts the most beautiful parade in all South America, with
the famous Diablo dancers.
I spent 3 days in the City, the
Calle Bolivar had the largest open Flee market that I have seen in all of Bolivia.
This building is great example of the old
beautiful colonial architecture found in Oruro
