Dunce caps

I took an online IQ test while watching Test the Nation on FOX tonight. A pretty silly show, if you ask me. But I only took one IQ test in my life (shortly after moving to the US before entering 6th grade). So I figured I'd give this not-so-official version a shot.

Well. I'm not a genius. I only scored a 120 IQ. So all you out there that seem to think I'm "smart" — sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not joining MENSA any day soon. Which is weird, since as a culture-shocked immigrant boy I scored well over 140. Huh. Alzheimer's?

I'm not sure if the IQ test is still online or not, but it was at testonfox.com. The audience was broken up into "demographics" made up of: scientists, teachers, celebrities, students, blondes, construction workers, body builders. The hosts kept track (as correct answers were revealed) of which group was on top.

If you watched the show, you got to see a bunch of lab-coated scientists cheer & hoot it up as they cleaned house (125 IQ average) — and was there any doubt? And, yes, the blondes were the dumbest group in the bunch (111 IQ average). So, um, like, the stereotypes were like, true and stuff.

Other interesting result: Detroit is the dumbest town in the US w/ only a 97 IQ average. Proving once again that Detroit is just the armpit of America.

don't say that about Detroit!

Totally agree. DON'T SAY THAT ABOUT DETROIT!

I'm not a fan of the IQ tests. The fact that a person is smart academically doesn't ensure they've got a high EQ (which I think counts more in the long run). Have u heard/read abt Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences? when I found out the various kinds of intelligences (besides acadmic smarts) I breathed a big sigh of relief. ; )

Don't believe online IQ tests! I taken a many different tests and had different results. Once I got 157, ha ha ha, and once I got 130. I don't think the scores are supposed to fluxuate so much.

See, Andy, I knew you were smarter than me! ;-)

OK, sorry to offend Detroit. But. If you want to defend Detroit, then ask yourself this question: Would I ever want to live in Detroit? And I don't mean the suburbs, or Royal Oak, or even Hamtramak. I mean Detroit. The city itself. Where you get to see babies in garbage cans (my friend Matt used to live on 2nd Street) and hear gunfire almost every night, w/ 50% of its buildings closed and boarded up (or burnt out).

The metro Detroit area has much going for it. But it's mostly in Hamtramak or Royal Oak. But the city itself? If you were to list the top ten vibrant cities in this country, would Detroit make the list? What if you expanded it to a top 20?

I'm going to go teach all the little children of detoit starting with the very worst school. I'd say in about 4 years it will be the next berkley

Good luck! But if anyone can turn Detroit around, it's you Bill. You should join Bay & I in our little semi-secret vigilante organization. We just need to come up w/ secret agent names and all that. We're working on it.

Interesting. I got 51 right for a score of 129. And I'm a blue-eyed blonde, by the way, so go figure. The test seemed to put too much emphasis on memorization for my taste; on similar tests without as many recollection questions, I've scored between 140-150 in the past. I think the reason that IQ test scores fluctuate so much is that IQ tests, generally speaking, are complete bollocks for determining precise intelligence at the higher levels.

Fox's timed test was ridiculous. Not enough time in a couple of areas and way more than enough time needed for others. Not to mention, it seemed like a few of number sequence questions were too similar. (Gee... I detect a pattern!)

In defense of the blondes at 111...though it's not even close to the 125 of the "lab coated scientists", it's not THAT bad. Someone was was truly dumb would do much worse.

My son got 58 correct, only 2 wrong.
He's looking for a good job, can't find one.
Go figure that one.
