Small world
12.01.2003Yesterday evening, I'm walking down the Avenida 6 de Agosto in La Paz. And who do I run into? Dr. Julien from the WMU history department. We stood, startled at recognizing each other thousands of miles from Kalamazoo. Then went out for coffee and chatted about each other's research and such. The possibility of running into a familiar face from Kalamazoo in La Paz, Bolivia, had never crossed my mind.

that is cool. i had something similar this weekend. my friend heather, who is a CMU alum from Bad Axe Michigan now attends GVSU with me. her friend from high school dates Maria Siles... grand daughter of the former Bolivian president. wow.
how come i never meet any Bolivians but all my friends do.

Yeah, the only other Bolivian I ever met in Kalamazoo was a falangista. Needless to say, we didn't become friends.

When Bay and I were getting on the bus from Salsbury to Stonehenge someone was like "Hey, Josh".
Turns out it was a guy from Kalamazoo who I knew was in London.....But this was well outside of London and he had his mom with him and I had Bay with me, we had a whole Kalamazoo section on te bus. That was wierd.
Oh, and I have run into two peopel from kalamazoo in Boston...I didn't know them, but they were from Kalamazoo anyway.

The woman who is moving in with me, Julee, who is from Saline but went to UofM in Ann Arbor, found a subleaser for her apartment. The new lady (amanda) moved in yesterday, and since I'm staying there as well we were all talking and realized that 1)Amanda lived in Ann Arbor for the past 3 years and 2) the people she moved here to be a nanny for were originally from Ann Arbor as well.
Not as impressive as Kalamazoo-Bolivia, but an unusual coincidence none the less.
