Slow Sunday
12.08.2003Was supposed to play soccer in Aranjuez w/ Sergio and his friends. Instead, I overslept. So I packed up Kaneda and headed down to Café Terraza for some Wi-Fi internet and café con leche. Met up w/ Paola, and we sat and read the Sunday paper together over coffee (me) and fruit juice (her).
I'd seen a bakery on Calle Guachalla that sold Christmas cookies (you know, the sugar cookies that everyone in Michigan makes w/ colored frosting and shaped like stars or stockings or whatnot). I'm starting to miss Michigan holiday season. We bought a dozen various cookies and walked over to Plaza Avaroa to enjoy the afternoon.
Apparently, Plaza Avaroa's the place to be if you're a dog person on Sunday. About two dozen different dogs, of various breeds, pranced & played w/ each other in the park while their owners looked on. Paola & I watched the dogs, who seemed excited to be out visiting their friends.
Later, we went to the European Film Festival at the Cine 6 de Agosto. The festival lasts from 1-15 December and presents several of the most critically acclaimed films of the past 2 years. Sunday's afternoon (tanda) show was a Spanish romantic comedy, El otro lado de la cama (The Other Side of the Bed). It won best picture, best direction, and public's choice at the Malaga Film Festival. It was quite funny & entertaining, and quite good.
