Samba New Year

01.01.2004

Sam & I sort of crashed a party hosted by Brazilian embassy staff. My friend Stephen (a fellow Fulbrighter) knew a girl who was invited, and scored invites for Sam, Maria (another Fulbrighter), and myself. So. After dinner at a Cuban restaurant, we headed out for the year end festivities.

We expected the party to be hosted by "some Brazilians" and dressed rather casually — so casually in fact, that we took the party theme of blue & white in good cheer and borrowed barber smocks to wear to the event. But we arrived at a mansion w/ over a dozen household staff, guests in suits & ties.

We had a great time. The liquor flowed, there was a great champagne toast accompanied w/ special fireworks, two bands & three DJs, and a banquet feast. It wasn't until past 4am that Sam & I — tired from dancing, drinking, eating — headed for home.
