Slow Saturday

Not doing much internet today at all; just stopped by a cyber cafe to check email. Got to the post office for a shipment of new comics (thanks Josh Upson). Really looking forward to DC: The New Frontier. Plan to go home, curl up on a couch, read comics all afternoon.

Milonga (Argentine tango dance party) last night. And I'm finally good enough to be less-than-awkward on the dance floor. Not too shabby. Tried taking some pictures, but most look terrible.

Today's the celebration of Gran Poder, a semi-religious festival from El Alto. Lots of alcohol, dancing, and merry making in the streets just above the Prado. At least it's better than a bloqueo. Still, I've lost all possible interest.

I tried to spend my day curled up reading books.. .. I just rode my bike around .. felt so good to ride and hang out on campus... my legs hurt!! :)

I am loving New Frontiers.

So cool.

Actually, I think it's a semi-religious festival from Tumusla, Eloy Salmón and surrounding neighborhoods that concentrate people dedicated to the commerce of various goods including electronics (the latter almost 100% counterfitted). Most of these people get very high incomes nevertheless their way of life and consumption patterns are not the most desirable (who is to define "desirable" any way), as an example, they can afford better living, housing, health services, etc.. and their living standard are like those of the poor (only food and drink quality and quantity differs). New generations (their sons and daughters) are getting better education only (which is a very good thing and eventually will improve all other things beforementioned).

I hate asking questions like this, but I'm curious as to what one wears at a tango dance party. I'm picturing red spanish dresses that hang on an angle with frilly edges; men in slick black fitted suits. Post a photo or two if you could.

Vanessa:
You're pretty accurate. Lots of fancy dresses & men in suits. I tend to wear jeans & a three-button jacket (so American). But not everyone dresses up, actually.
