In the White City

06.28.2004

After a brief layover in Cochabamba, I'm now in Sucre. Checked into Hostal Charcas (Bs. 40 per night), right across from the central market (plan to eat breakfast there). I'm off for some coffee, and finish reading Life of Pi — my airplane reading material — what a great story!

So far I'm liking Sucre. It's got some amazing architecture. Just amazing. And every building in the downton is white. The hostel's comfortable, if not spectacular. But super centric. There's tons of museums to check off in true tourist style, including some dinosaur tracks just outside town. And since this is Bolivia's only "college town", lots of bohemian cafés.

I love Sucre, definetly Bolivia's most beautiful city. The Hostels are awesome and the poeple are very warm.

I have not visited Sucre yet. Now,definitely, I am looking forward to visiting Sucre. Miguel, what is the name of the vegetarian/vegan restaurant? As I told you, I am vegan and I will be visiting Cochabamba soon. Are you vegetarian or vegan? Thank you! Keep enjoying Bolivia and have a safe trip back to the U. S.

No, I'm neither vegetarian or vegan. But, when in the US, I do tend to eat vegan (because many of my closest friends are).

The vegetarian restaurant I most like in Bolivia insn't in Sucre, but in Cochabamba. It's near the Plaz Colon, called Restaurant Ganesh. It's owned by Krishnas. There are at least two other vegetarian restaurants in Cochabamba, all owned by Krishnas. Actually, I think all the vegetarian/vegan places I've ever been to in Bolivia are Krishna-run.

I did see a vegetarian place (El Germen) in Sucre, but haven't tried it yet. It's on Calle San Alberto, between Bolivar & España. It looked quite nice.
