Slight inconveniences

08.26.2004

Despite what some think, I'm really not a very patient person. It's all the concentration I can muster to be patient in public. In private, little things quickly irritate me.

Like trying to sign up w/ Sprint, to switch my phone plan to their service. I stopped at the Sprint store in Kalamazoo before heading out to Saginaw — so my old number would work on my new service plan while I was on the road. And. After spending 30 minutes in the store, I'm told the Sprint computers are down.

So. I head on the road to my parents' house. Starting to get a little impatient because I'm stuck three hours on a two hour route. Partially because semis are crawling around Lansing. Partially because I missed the 96/69 junction point & drove west on 96 (instead of east on 69) for a while.

I arrive at an empty house. And here I thought I was supposed to be home to watch my elderly grandparents this afternoon & tomorrow morning. So. I decide to take advantage & head to the Sprint store in Saginaw. Guess what? The system's still down.

Now. I'm gonna give Sprint one more chance to take my money. Just one more chance. If they don't want my business, if they're not up to snuff, I'm taking my $$ elsewhere. That's how I operate; I take the dog-eat-dog rule of capitalism very seriously. There's a list of businesses that will never, ever see another dime of my money.

I wonder if companies today really care about losing prospective customers? There are so many of them that I think they just don't care anymore.

On the upside, there are companies that have been great to me & I am steadfastly loyal to them. I will even pay a higher price, if they've always been good to me.
