Free money = pizza + pop
09.29.2004I appreciate the offer of yet another credit card, w/ a $6,500 limit no less. Though I don't remember applying for a First National Card. Actually, I don't remember ever hearing of a First National Card. And I certainly don't want a credit card I can only use w/ a home-order catalog (unless it's J.Crew).
Of course, the three minutes spent on hold w/ a less-than-literate phone operator drowned out by a high-talking cubicle mate (I wanted off their list) was the last straw. See, there's no such thing as a free lunch. And no such thing as a free credit card you didn't apply for. Plus, if the highest ranking Google page on a credit card is to a scam alert from consumeraffairs.com ... well, I guess that last part's obvious.
If you're a financial institution offering me credit, and you can't afford to host a website, I want nothing to do w/ you.
Fortunately, the other piece of mail in my box was my income tax refund. Yes, I filed extremely late (as in past the 15 August extension deadline). No matter, Uncle Sam forgives all. And while it's one of the smallest refunds I've received, I appreciate my $128.
Like most people, I frivolously spend my tax refund (ah! supply-side economics). So. I called up Hungry Howie's for a large pizza w/ feta, tomato, black olives, and sesame crust. And a 2-liter of Barq's root beer. Nothing better on a rainy autumn night in front of the television.

UPDATE: Unsure who to vote for? Here's an online quiz.

Oh man... good thing Uncle Sam is forgiving, as you say, because I still haven't filed. Oops! Didin't that extension say October 15th?
And yes, eating on the couch while watching a movie is the way to go when the weather all of a sudden turns 50 degrees and rainy on you.

I love Hungry Howies. I spent my tax refund on a new tennis racket.
