Saturday looked good to me
12.03.2004Tonight's show rocked. Saturday Looks Good To Me headlined a great line-up. The Ann Arbor band lit up a near-home-town crowd, w/ their infectious & solidly crafted 70s groove-pop. Tired, after a long road trip, they were ecstatic to be back in Michigan, headed for home.
They were preceded by Superluxe, a band that surprised me. The band played 50s style rock'n'roll — not old songs, mind you, but in the style of the wild frenzy of live performances when rock was young, like James Brown or Jerry Lee Lewis or Buddy Holly — raw, honest, fun. I especially loved the mix of wild guitar solos & backup singers.
It all started w/ the debut of The Bridge Over River Qua, from Kalamazoo. One of the better first shows I've ever heard. Wow. You could definitely hear the influences (especially Joy Division). I was snapping pictures like crazy, ending up w/ 135 shots. Interestingly, Mickey O moved so fast — vibrating, actually — he become "invisible" in some shots.

I have 80-90 I'm burning onto a CD for you guys. Almost all were shot w/ long exposures (it was hard to gage the lighting), so there's a lot of blur, but the rich tones. I should've shot some different ones, but it's hard to switch back/forth as an amateur photog w/ a purely digital camera.
But it was an amazing set, btw. Assuming you guys continue to improve, it'll be great. I hope Saturday Looks Good To Me had a chance to hear you guys.
