On to Rome
12.09.2004Booyah! W/ the exception of two make-up exams waiting for me at the office, I'm done grading. That means shortly after noon, I'll waltz up to Friedmann Hall, gather (& grade) my last two exams, then hand my semester gradesheet into the office. On to Rome!
I've decided to not take Kaneda w/ me to Europe (trooper that he was throughout Bolivia). So I need more SD cards for my camera, instead (& try very hard to take pictures selectively). But it's one less thing to worry about as I trek through Europe.
I need a backpack that'll carry the following items:
travel toothbrush & toothpaste
travel soap & shampoo
travel alarm clock
Moleskin notebook & pens
digital camera & SD cards
battery charger (for digital camera) & plug adaptors
passport
pocket travel guides (London & Barcelona)
four pair underwear
four pair socks
four t-shirts
two long sleeve shirts
one wool sweater
one pair chinos
pajama pants
hard copy of dissertation draft & outline
That should be enough, right? The list, of course, doesn't include what I'll wear on the flight over. Oh, and the assorted gifts entrusted for my cousin.
In-flight movie selections include:
Disney's Home On The Range
Win A Date With Tad Hamilton
Collateral
The Nutcracker
Shark Tale
Elf
Without A Paddle
Miss Marple: A Caribbean Mystery
I've no idea which of these I'll get to watch. But if it's only one: Dear God, let it be Collateral. I usually win the prize for having watched the worst in-flight movie ever — Crossroads (yes, the Britney Spears movie) — but I think both Miss Marple or The Nutcracker could put me in another league altogether.

So you plan on travelling with one backpack? Hmm, interesting ... I am going home with two suitcases and a backpack as carry-on ... . and a toothbrush or Pajamas are not in my luggage (we got that all at home anyways...).
Well ... there is a reason for me traveling heavy. Aside from lugging much camera equipment with me (though not all), I also intend to take home a load of books I wanna keep, but don't need here anymore.
Happy and safe travelling, hope you enoy your trip.

Well. In part, I'm a big fan of travelling light. But I'm also only going for two weeks, backpacking around several cities. So I've to travel light, w/ only carryone luggage (less to keep an eye on).

Lucky you, I still have so much to grade. I didn't know when I prepared a syllabus I would be so overwhelmed with grading. Approx. 1000 pages read twice. But at least exams seem to be quite good. Have fun, N.

Toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo? who needs that stuff. They just take too much space and weight a ton after an hour carrying them. Four sets of underwear? man, you travel heavy. Think about how much all those unnecessary things weight. Make it easy for yourself, take your camera, passport, map and plastic money. That's all you need. The rest, you get on the way.
On second thought, maybe you do need a toothbrush. How else you are going to comb your eyebrows when you get off the airplane. ;-)
Have a good time in the Old World. Don't foreget to ring up if your travels take you as far north as Hamburg.

I greatly enjoyed Collateral. Excellent revenge flick.

(Hope your Roma experience is better than mine. I hated it.)
