Rock the stats away

02.16.2005

Seems the University Computing Center sold me a license-less STATA. So. Um. No STATA for me today? Let’s hope they generate a license code for me tomorrow. But I figure I’ll at least come up w/ a brief list of the variables I want to compile, for when I get my STATA license. Here’s the list so far:

  • ENPV (effective number of parties by votes)
  • ENPS (effective number of parties by seats)
  • Blank & null votes
  • Herfindahl-Hirschman concentration index
  • electoral volatility index
  • % vote for systemic parties (MNR-MIR-ADN)
  • % vote for MNR
  • % vote for top two parties in department
  • % vote for incumbent parties (parties in the incumbent governing coalition)
  • % vote for winning coalition (parties entering the new governing coalition)
  • Effective threshold
  • “Media luna” dummy
  • “Metropolitan” dummy
  • “MMP” dummy

Should be an interesting weekend.

Also, I’m currently listening to WIDR online. You should donate some money; support your local college radio. Or at least listen online (low/high bandwidth). My dissertation acknowledgements page will mention WIDR 89.1FM. For sure.

UPDATE: I just did a B-doption for Plan B. So. Tune in next Wednesday from 7-8pm. I chose the topic: “Is president Bailey a terrible university president?” And. Yes. It is a call-in show.
