Belated Easter

03.29.2005

Next weekend's our belated family "Easter" celebration in Chicago. Also, three generations of Centellas birthdays between 7 & 10 April. Should be fun times all around. I still need to get my train ticket.

Speaking of Easter, I forgot to thank Bay (& Nick) for inviting me out to Sunday brunch at Food Dance Café. So I wasn't a lonely goy on Easter. Bay even offered a whimsical: "You should thank us Jews, otherwise you wouldn't have Easter." To which I responded: "That's OK. We all know the wops did it."

Meanwhile, I'm trying to keep busy. Teaching load is (finally!) light, so I'm hoping to get caught up on some recent journal articles (especially from Electoral Studies) and recent books. Oh, and writing brief historical outlines of Bolivia from 1982-present (focusing on election periods, of course).

Two words start w/ "S": Spring. And. Sabbatical. Spring means warm weather, crisp evenings, starry nights, and sudden urges to ride out for gelato. Sabbatical means no grading papers, no syllabus writing, plenty of time to jump haphazardly from book to project to outlining to incubating things in my brain w/o pressing daily deadlines. W/ luck, my "sabbatical" will extend into next spring.

W/ any luck, I'd like to: read a novel a week; write 10 pages a week; read/skim/outline 100 pages a day; and at least one dance party a week.

-----
NOTE: Please note that I'm not prejudiced against Italians. I like Italy very much. I was simply trying to give a witty riposte to Bay, while pointing out that, factually, it wasn't the Jews who killed Jesus, but the Romans. That is all.

There's no place in the world like Michigan for these things. Springs/Summers in Michigan are flawless, in my opinion.

Who killed Jesus? The Jews plotted and demanded his execution, the Romans carried it out...However, as a Christian we believe that God planned this to atone for all of our sins. So who killed Jesus? All of us because God loved us enought to atone for our sin in order that we may approach a holy God.

Oh, Mom! I was only joking. But let's not say "the Jews" plotted to kill Jesus, but "some Jews" (of course, I know you know that).
