BBQ11 wrap-up

05.30.2005

So Moped Army BBQ11 is over, or at the last stages of winding down. Most of the out-of-towners are on their way home; I'm waiting for the Walkers to swing by for their stuff.

The Walkers were fun to host. Not too wild, not too mellow, just pleasant company & easy to please. We had a nice sit-down meal (I cooked) w/ some Paw Paw wine. They got along well w/ my girls. So it turned out to be a good weekend.

I boxed Josh Dahl. And surprised everyone by winning. Big time (no offence to my good friend, J. Edmund Dahl). We were friends going in, friends during (I don't think either of us really hit as hard as we could), and friends after. Someone even commented on how it was nice to see us go three rounds, then dance to hip-pop in the party's dance room. Though he & I wondered why cute girls weren't lining up after our pugilistic display.

We went on a few long rides, w/ 90+ mopeds in a long, including a winding caravan through the winding, tree-lined route between Kalamazoo & Plainwell.

There was some crazy mayhem, some of it beyond my tolerance level. But there were always other people/places to wander off to. Not everyone wants their life as an issue of Vice magazine.

I also decided — against my better judgment — to race. Nothing serious, but The Motron's front forks need repair (I, on the other hand, don't).

Caleb & Marci are still in town tonight, w/ the rest of the Seattle Mosquito Fleet. So I'll get to sit w/ them, over a game of chess w/ Caleb. J. Edmund heads back for Boston soon, along w/ all the rest of the East Coast gang. The Cinci kids already left; some of them have classes tomorrow morning.

All in all, a very fun, busy, and overall enjoyable Moped Army BBQ.

The BBQ looked like fun... some weird photos... but still a ton of fun. Looks like not all Moped Army people across the country are like the Kzoo ones. Glad the weather behaved!

Miguel, you were an awesome host. I can't tell you how great it was to stay at your place. What a pleasure! It really made the weekend for me, just knowing I had a clean and quiet place to hang out and crash after a night of wild gin-drinking. *wink*
