Mouse hunt
07.25.2005I've no idea how, when, or why. But I saw Sophie chasing something, excitedly, and w/ an intensity of concentration rarely seen. So I entered my bedroom to find my sporting black cat sitting, crouched, ready to pounce. Across from her? A tiny grey deer mouse. Yes, a real live mouse. It's currently cowering behind my desk. Sophie's patiently waiting her out.
Sadly, this entire time, Annie's been lounging in the living room, completely unconcerned.

UPDATE 1: Somehow, the little bugger eluded capture, and has escaped.
UPDATE 2: Go team Miguel & Sophie! After Sophie ran into the closet, and hunkered in for a good several minutes, I knew something was up. I moved a suitcase, and presto, the chase was on. This time, my trusty Nikon in hand, I managed a few snapshots, as Sophie practiced the skills of catch-and-release hunting into the living room. Sadly, Annie continued to sit, even when the hunt raced under her chair. Gotta give it to that mouse for spunk, it never gave up, even stared death (aka Sophie) in the face numerous times. Before making a dash into the radiator, where it remains. A vigilant Sophie, too.
UPDATE 3: I heard a squeak, and knew the hunt was on again. This time, Annie joined in. This time, the mouse was clearly injured, making my catching him w/ a box lid simple enough. I scooped him up, and shuttled into the hallway, quickly barring my cats inside my apartment. The little guy scurred about, dragging his left rear leg behind, but no other visible signs of damage (though his tail seemed suspiciously shorter).
