Meet Kermit
09.23.2005Back in Kalamazoo after a brief overnight visit back to Saginaw. Drove Kermit (my 1994 GMC Sonoma) back to Kzoo. I gotta give a huge "thanks!" to my dad, who found the little guy & haggled its owner down to an unbelievable price.
Fifteen minutes at the Secretary of State office, and we were on our way back across Michigan.
It's a smooth ride. I filled the tank up at $2.58/gallon before leaving Saginaw, then drove down M-52 'til I hit 44 miles on the trip odometer. I assumed about 20 mpg, so I checked at a gas station. I could only fit another 1.2 gallons. Nice.
I gave up my last car in 1995. And frankly never really missed having one. Sure, I love to drive. Not having a car meant extra money for lots of other things. I loved biking to/from places, walking, and living in a small college town means things are close by. I'm also a big fan of public transportation.
But I figured I'll need a car when I move to wherever it is I move to. So I've been getting ready to own a car by scaling back, tightening my budget. It means Kaneda stays around for another year (it'll be the longest I've owned one computer), no new Blackberry, and fewer espresso shakes.
But I'm still gonna try to keep my driving to a minimum, at least 'til winter hits.

PS: On a totally unrelated note. Tonight's seasone finale of Battlestar Galactica was intense. What a cliffhanger!

Nice friendly colour. Is that why it's called Kermit?

Yep, it's just a cute little green pickup, so I thought Kermit was a nice name.

Congrats! looks nice.
One question. What do you do with your old computers?
Posted by: Miguel at September 24, 2005 02:34 PM
Oh, I used to get a new laptop ever 18 months or so. I would then just sell the old one (either on eBay or to a friend). Kaneda will have to last until next June/July.

BG was a total cliffhanger, and now we've got to wait until June to see whether Adama will follow through. Personally I'd like to see the Colonial Marines rescue Chief and Helo by force of arms; and split off from the Pegasus altogether. I think this may the direction in which the show's heading. The characters from Battelstar Pegasus are portrayed as cavalier and brutal, and the Admiral as cruel and unmerciful. On the other hand, the Pegasus brings more people into the mission, to simply survive, and certainly when the existence of the human race is at stake in the face of Cylon aggression there is safety in numbers. On the other hand, the Admiral's aggression may be the end of the Pegasus as she conducts raids on the Cylons, which seem to be greater in number. On the other, other hand, the big question: do the introduction of the pregnant cylon Boomer and the intro of the physical manifestation of prof. Baltar's imaginary girlfriend evidence some sort of materializing bridge across the conflict, or a Cylon scheme to eliminate the humans?
Hmm.
Nice truck.

Great deal on the truck, and it already came in handy! Thanks for bringing my chair, and I will hopefully see you visit Albion sometime and get a chance to see campus.

Nice truck! It really looks nice and I'm sure that dad got a great deal for you. He's such a good negotiator, I could really use him out here right about now.
