Annie watch

07.18.2006

AnnieSo far the only stressful thing about the temporary move to Chicago has been Annie. My sweet darling girl's just not fitting in well. The two boys, Watson & Ralph, pick on her. In part, she provokes them by hissing & growling when they're around. But they have claws; she doesn't. Also, she limps.

As of three days ago, Annie now has a scar running across her pink & white nose. She spends most of the time hiding under the bed, often w/ one of the Chicago boys keeping guard at the bedroom door. On the plus side, she's lost some weight (she was, as her veterinarian put it, "obese"). And lately she's been coming out more often, though she still keeps her distance from the others.

Sophie, on the other hand, is doing just fine. Timid as always, she just slinks around the apartment. But she even eats w/ the Chicago cats, though a few feet apart. On one occassion, she even bravely threw herself between Annie & Ralph.

I'm sure things'll be better in Pennsylvania. No Ralph (who's the worst offender). And the living space will be "neutral" territory, for once.

Hey Miguel
I just saw Annies picture. Firs off, she lost so much weight!!!! she looks great, good job. Second, i'm really sorry for her for getting beat up. She'll probably get depressed for a while, give her extra attention. But she'll learn to fend for her self. Mona was like that at the begening. They'll either get a long or they'll leave eachother alone .
Hope everyone is well. Say hello to Kate.

Hell, I just landed on your site by chance, and read about Annie. Keep your eye on her and make sure she is eating. A friend of mine lost a kitty, in a situation just like this, she was overweight to start, and he didn't realize she wasn't eating. Cats can die rather quickly from organ damage by not eating for a couple of days. I don't mean to be rude in any way...it just struck a cord, it was such an awful thing the way it happened.

Oh, thanks for the warning. But Annie is indeed eating. I've made sure of that. I've seen her eat every day, even when I didn't deliberately escort her to the food dish & stand guard to make sure she could eat in peace. She's lost weight mainly from not being free to gorge on food (like she used to). Oh, and she's been on a diet for about two months before we moved, so she was already thinner than when Saloumeh last saw her (at that point she weighed almost 22 pounds, as of two months ago she was already down to about 17).
