The list of fallacies

Here's the much-requested "word bank" or list of fallacies covered so far in class. There are only a dozen:

  1. false analogy
  2. false dilemma
  3. false criteria
  4. hasty generalization
  5. sweeping generalization
  6. fallacy of division
  7. fallacy of composition
  8. non sequitur (aka red herring)
  9. poisoning the well
  10. circular reasoning
  11. appeal to authority
  12. post hoc
I've previously put up examples of these in posts (scroll down). Some of these have different names, which I'll accept, so long as they mean the same thing. But these are the simpler, most common names. I'll also post them up on the projector during the quiz itself, to make it as painless as possible.
