political ideologies

Final Exam

Here are the short essay questions for the final exam. Each one is worth ten points. Bring a blue book to the final exam. The exam will be closed book. Feel free to study for these questions during the rest of the semester.

Question 1
Are political ideologies still relevant in today's world? Fukuyama argues that liberalism is firmly entrenched as the dominant ideology and that ideological conflicts no longer exist (or are slowly disappearing) in politics. Is this true? Or is the nature or scope of ideological conflict shifting, as Barber argues? Are some ideologies more relevant than others?

Question 2
Define a political ideology. I will provide two ideologies from the four main ideologies (liberalism, conservatism, socialism, fascism) and you will write a short essay outlining that ideology.

Question 3
Pick any one of the authors from the second half of the semester and explain how he/she fits into our list of ideologies. Is he/she a liberal? A socialist? Or does the author not easily fit into any of the four major categories? Does he/she fit into more than one category? You should be able to support your answer with examples.
