We have been meeting in Sprau tower after class on Thursday if anyone wants to join us...

Just looking for a clarification/opinion ... Although we are generally considered to be liberals, we have systems like social security and medicare, and public schools... We have a Department of Labor, where there are dozens of laws: child labor laws, fair labor standards act, family and medical leave act, occupational safety and health act... etc... etc Do you think we are legislating our way to Bernstein ideal of Marx's argument?

Eric:
Sure.. i have already started mine, but im not too confident that im going about it the right way.
I think if some of us got together and shraed ideas and so forth that would def. help out a bit.
Simple and to the point is sorta the strategy im using for the paper. Anyways, count me in.

This might be a repeat I dont know if my last post posted. I was wondering if anyone in the class has been meeting up passing around ideas about the paper. I would like to see how others are developing their papers. I think we could all do better if we share ideas. Let me know if anyone is interested. I am available mon-fri after 6:00. Also the history channel documentary is on at 9:00.

The new reading schedule is now online. Also, I've extended the deadline for the paper to 12 November. I've also added a list of tips for writing the paper on the paper assingment webpage. Those of you that have had a class w/ me before know that I'm pretty picky about how papers are written; please look over the writing tips section closely and give yourself plenty of time to re-write and proofread your papers.

When will the updated syllabus be available?

Tuesday, October 22

We are still one class day behind. We'll stay that way for the duration fo the semester. I'm actually going to revise the schedule and probably eliminate the two class periods we were going to spend on Ayn Rand altogether.

Extra Credit: I wish I'd caught this earlier. But the History Channel is showing a series of documentaries this week on "Youth of the Third Reich" and its indoctrination of children. I will give 5 pts extra credit (as participation points) to anyone that watches an episode (or more) and write a one-page (2-3 paragraph) reflexion on the show.

Are we back to our syllabus schedual for reading? Or are we still one class day behind?
